Louisville Garbage Man Tops the Heap

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—March 29, 2013—Randy “Waylon” King is one of the best garbage truck drivers in the U.S.

King has been named “Driver of the Year” by the Environmental Industry Associations (EIA). He drives a Rumpke truck 800 miles per week on average, and hasn’t had a single accident in 19 years.

“Some customers request Randy specifically because of the great service he provides,” said Operations Manager Mike Mosier. ”Randy takes his driving and the training of others very seriously.”

King drives a roll off truck, collecting open top containers from construction sites or compactors from shopping malls or other large venues. His nomination for this award included recommendations from the Louisville Bats and the Harbor Group Management Company.

A lifelong resident of Crothersville, Ind., King has been married 25 years and has two children. He’s a dedicated member of the Bethany Baptist church and enjoys horseback riding and gardening.

King will be recognized by his peers at Rumpke April 3 during an employee breakfast at 5 a.m. at 1101 W. Oak Street in Louisville. He will also share a national stage with other top drivers from across the country at an industry awards ceremony in May.
