  • Rumpke acquired the site in August 2009. The site had been previously operated by Richland Co., Milliron, Superior Services, BFI, Allied Waste and Republic Waste.
  • The site sits on 3 acres and includes two buildings, a transfer station and a commercial recycling facility.
  • Built in 1989, the transfer station is approximately 19,320 sq. ft.
  • The recycling facility, built in 1944, is approximately 20,360 sq. ft. and was part of the Mansfield Tire and Rubber Company in operation from 1912 to 1979.
  • In the 1920s and 1930s, Mansfield Tire and Rubber Company was comparable to the ‘Big Four’ in the industry—Goodyear, Goodrich, Firestone, and Uniroyal—with products sold nationwide.
  • The facility processes cardboard, paper and plastic materials from commercial customers.

Processes & Capabilities

  • The transfer station receives 500-650 tons of trash and over 40 tons of recycling daily.
  • The recycling facility processes about 240 tons of source-separated recycling per month.
  • The transfer station receives waste from Richland, Ashland, Lorain, Knox, Marion, Morrow, Wayne and Coshocton counties.
  • The transfer station and on-site recycling facility receive recycling materials from Richland, Crawford, Lorain, Ottawa, Senica, Sandusky, Huron, Morrow, Marion and Knox counties.
  • Waste is taken to Rumpke’s Noble Road Landfill.
  • Single-steam recycling is taken to Rumpke’s Recycling and Resource Center in Columbus, OH.
  • Processed recycling from the on-site recycling facility is taken to various paper mills and plastic processors.
  • The site includes two public drop-boxes—one for cardboard and another for plastic and other recyclable items for the single-stream recycling.
