About Rumpke’s Beech Hollow Landfill
Current Operations
- The Beech Hollow Landfill opened in November 1995.
The site sits on 600 acres. - 175 acres are permitted for waste disposal, with about 90 acres constructed.
- Based on present volumes, the site has 74 years of remaining capacity.
- The landfill is permitted to receive up to 4,000 tons per day and currently receives about 1,000 tons per day.
- Equipment on-site includes: 22 Rear load trucks, 5 Front load trucks, 4 Tractor Trailer trucks and 25 pieces of landfill heavy equipment.
- About 74 full-time employees operate the site, including operators, drivers, mechanics and office staff.
- Operations at the facility include landfill operations, hauling and maintenance.
Site Features
- The Beech Hollow Landfill has 16 groundwater monitoring wells to avoid water contamination—these wells are sampled quarterly.
- 27 leachate cleanout locations throughout the landfill help workers keep leachate collection pipes clean and functioning. The leachate is sampled monthly, and collection pipes are cleaned annually.
- The landfill features 3 surface water sediment ponds to collect stormwater runoff and prevent sediment from leaving the site. These ponds are inspected weekly and sampled monthly.
- The Beech Hollow Landfill is seeded and mulched annually as the site progresses to help prevent soil erosion, control odors, deter birds and rodents and conserve the natural landscape.
- Seeding mixture consists of 200 pounds per acre, and mulch is applied at a rate of 2/5 tons per acre.
