Keeping greater Cincinnati clean and green has been our mission since 1932. Rumpke Sanitary Landfill in Colerain Township provides an environmentally sound waste disposal option for Hamilton County and the surrounding region.

Our duty doesn’t stop after we’ve collected your residential trash or commercial trash. Proper waste disposal is paramount for the health of the community. Rumpke’s landfill - just outside of Cincinnati - is specially designed to protect the environment, while also prioritizing human health and safety.

Team of Professionals

Our team of professionals consist of environmentalists, engineers, landfill managers, and full-time licensed geologists who follow strict guidelines to ensure everything is disposed of properly and efficiently - from the initial construction of our landfill to the daily disposal of municipal solid waste.

And on a daily basis, our Cincinnati landfill is carefully monitored to ensure environmental compliance with all local, state, and federal regulating agencies.

Cincinnati Landfill FAQs

Solid waste landfills are highly engineered structures designed to protect human health and the environment by properly disposing of trash. Landfills have several liners to prevent trash from reaching soil or water. They also have environmental safeguards in place to remove and destroy landfill gas.

A sanitary landfill is a place where nonhazardous trash is disposed of in a way that’s safe for the environment and the community at large.

All of Rumpke's landfills are built in sections called “cells”, which are capped with a liner system similar to the one placed at the bottom of the landfill. Once the final cap has been installed, the landfills are monitored for at least 30 years. The bottom of the landfill features layers of gravel as well as intermittent leachate pipes designed to siphon leachate from the landfill and transfer it to a local water treatment facility.

On the outside, Rumpke partners with energy companies to capture landfill gas as natural gas. Currently, our Rumpke Sanitary Landfill is the largest landfill gas-to-pipeline energy production facility in the world.

While our solid waste disposal landfill does support the disposal of recyclables, Rumpke also offers recycling solutions for homeowners, businesses, and construction crews looking to improve their environmental impact.

Check out our recycling center that supports single stream recycling, making it easier than ever to recycle your waste.
