The Athens-Hocking Landfill opened in 1983 and was acquired by Rumpke on July 1, 2021. Located in Nelsonville, Ohio, the landfill spans over 500 acres and has 14 full-time employees. The site has three ponds that collect stormwater runoff and prevent sediment from leaving the site. The ponds are inspected weekly and sampled monthly. Athens-Hocking Landfill is permitted up to 2,000 tons per day. Currently, the landfill takes in about 750-850 tons per day. Based on present volumes, the landfill has 30 years of remaining capacity.
