CINCINNATI – Nov. 15, 2015 – Rumpke, Ohio’s recycling leader, continues to see growth in the amount of material its customers recycle. In its second year of operation, Rumpke’s Cincinnati recycling facility saw a 17 percent increase in recyclables.
“We processed an impressive 376,570,000 pounds of material during the last 12 months,” said Brad Dunn, Cincinnati recycling manager, Rumpke. “Based solely on the amount of material processed last year, our Cincinnati operations ranked 10th largest recycling center in North America, in an industry study.”
Rumpke hopes to continue to grow recycling in the coming year; however, it cautions its customers that more focus needs to be placed on recycling correctly.
“We want your recycling efforts to count,” Dunn said. “You take the time to separate the material from the waste stream, so we want to make sure that we are on the same page on what can be recycled.”
According to Dunn, putting the wrong material into your recycling bin can cause big problems.
“Some items damage machines at the processing center, others pose hazards to employees or even prevent us from recycling other material,” Dunn said.
Rumpke accepts the following items in its recycling program:
- Plastic bottles and jugs (please flatten and reattach the lid)
- Cartons
- Glass bottles and jars (any color)
- Aluminum and steel cans
- Empty aerosol cans (with lids and tips removed)
- Paperboard (cereal boxes, 12-pack containers, etc.)
- Cardboard
- A variety of paper products, including:
- Office paper
- Newspaper
- Magazines
- Junk mail and envelopes (with or without windows)
- Telephone books
- Paper grocery bags
