Vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for drivers ages 18-34. Rumpke has developed the interactive Students Against Crashes (S.A.C.) program to reduce the number of fatal accidents involving young drivers.
During the 2003-2004 school year, three students lost their lives in automobile related accidents at Talawanda High School in Oxford, Ohio. During the months that followed, a fellow student and friend of those who were fatally injured contacted Rumpke to discuss communicating safe driving lessons to high school students. Rumpke reviewed current and new student training programs and identified a need for additional interactive training for teenage drivers who had already received their licenses. The conclusion was that students may better comprehend additional safety messages after gaining some personal driving experience.
As a result, Rumpke created a team to develop an interactive training program to articulate these important lessons. This training program is dedicated to those three high school students who lost their lives. Rumpke hopes this effort will promote additional interactive programs targeting new drivers.
